Excellence in Research

The School of Public Affairs and Administration is ranked #1 in city management and urban policy, #6 in public management administration and #13 in environmental policy and management according to the 2016 U.S. News and World Report.

The School of Public Affairs and Administration excels in research programs. Faculty in the school are top researchers in public administration theory, public management and organizational theory, budgeting and finance, urban policy and administration, human resources management, collaboration, and law and public management. We encourage you to explore the faculty profiles.

Students in the school have opportunities to work with faculty in their research programs and to develop their own original research. Undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in research methods courses have the opportunity to participate in the undergraduate research program. MPA and MUP students conduct research in many of their program courses and have the opportunity to work directly with faculty through the directed reading classes. Doctoral students develop their own research programs throughout their doctoral studies and have a high placement rate. Graduates of the doctoral program are now professors at Florida State University, George Mason University, American University, North Carolina State, the University of Alabama, Wayne State University, and Arizona State University.
