About: Susie Geiger, a Richard Chesney scholar, graduated with highest distinction in May 2018 with a bachelor’s in economics and minors in history and business from the University of Kansas. During her time at KU, Susie was greatly involved with the marching band and School of Music. She served in leadership positions at the chapter and district level of Tau Beta Sigma, a band-affiliated service sorority dedicated to promoting music education and women in the music profession. She was also an active volunteer with KU Alternative Breaks and the Lawrence Visitors Center. Her senior year, she worked with Dr. Kala Stroup to complete research on the interaction between nonprofits and local governments through the KU Honors Program. Susie worked for KU as a peer mentor with the Office of First Year Experience and as peer educator with Student Money Management Services. She also completed internships with the City of Salina and the City of Derby, where she did research for a variety of policy initiatives and assisted in the presentation of the City Manager’s recommended budget.
